With a distinguished legal career spanning decades, Judge Herbert brings a wealth of experience and a stellar reputation for legal acumen, impartiality, and a deep commitment to justice.
Beginning his career as a research attorney for the California Court of Appeal, First and Fifth Districts, Judge Herbert transitioned to private practice in 1986, eventually serving as a Partner at several prominent Northern California litigation firms. His extensive legal background encompasses coverage and bad faith litigation, plaintiff-side products liability and class actions, extensive appellate practice, and a comprehensive understanding of business, employment, and insurance litigation.
Appointed as a Judge of the Alameda County Superior Court in 2013, Judge Herbert’s tenure included five years as a Civil Direct Calendar Judge and over five years as an unlimited civil case settlement judge, where he assisted in the resolution of all types of civil cases except family law. His reputation for strong negotiation skills and an acute understanding of nuanced legal issues positions him as an invaluable resource for those seeking alternative avenues to settle disputes.
Now having retired from the bench, Judge Herbert is leveraging his extensive judicial and settlement experience to help resolve disputes as a mediator, arbitrator, and referee at ADR Services, Inc.
