JUDICIAL CAREER

After 30 years as a civil litigator, handling both plaintiff and defense cases, he was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor Pete Wilson, and was elected to two 6-year terms thereafter. For these years, Judge Mortimer served in a civil fast track department and for the past 8 years served in the Complex Civil Litigation of CCW. On the Superior Court, he was twice elected to the Executive Committee, served on the Rules Committee and the Judicial Orientation Committee, served as Vice-Chair on the BAJI Committee and as Chair of the Bench-Bar Committee.

EDUCATION

Judge Mortimer graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles with a degree in Philosophy. He obtained a JD from USC School of Law in 1965.

LITIGATION EXPERIENCE

After several years as a trial lawyer with the State of California (CALTRANS), Judge Mortimer joined the firm of Thelen Marrin Johnson & Bridges as a civil trial lawyer. As a partner in their Los Angeles office, he served on the firm-wide executive committee. He was a delegate to the State Bar Convention for many years.

MISCELLANEOUS

Judge Mortimer lectures in Civil Litigation and was awarded the Judicial Civility Award by the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2000. He also served as president of the San Marino City Club in 2006.
